How to Resolve the “Value Can’t Be Null – Parameter Name: Source” Error When Running the Connector with QuickBooks Desktop

When attempting to run the ServiceBox Accounting Connector with QuickBooks Desktop, some users may encounter the following error message:

"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. Value can't be null. Parameter name: source."

This message can be confusing and doesn’t clearly explain the issue.

 

Cause: Missing Admin Rights in QuickBooks Desktop

The most common reason for this error is that the user currently logged into QuickBooks Desktop does not have administrative rights. Admin access is required for the Connector to integrate successfully with QuickBooks Desktop.

 

Solution: Log in as Admin User

To resolve the issue:

  1. Verify Admin Access:

    • Ensure that you are logged into QuickBooks Desktop with an admin user account.

  2. Run QuickBooks as Admin:

    • Right-click on the QuickBooks icon and choose “Run as administrator.”

  3. Retry the Sync:

    • Once logged in as an admin, open the ServiceBox Connector and run the sync again.

This should resolve the error and allow the synchronization to proceed.
