"Name Supplied Already Exists" Error Message - FAQ

This article explains how to resolve the error “The name supplied already exists” that can occur when importing a customer into accounting from ServiceBox using the accounting connector.

If you receive the error message:

"The name supplied already exists. : Another customer, supplier, or employee is already using this name. Please use a different name."

It means that the name of the customer you're trying to import is already in use in your accounting software (as a customer, supplier, or employee).

How to Resolve It

1. Check the Conflict

Look at the entry above the error in the ServiceBox Accounting Connector — this will indicate which customer is causing the issue.

2. Check for Name Conflicts

Make sure no other customer, supplier, or employee already has the same name in your accounting system.

3. Remove Trailing Spaces

Sometimes a space at the end of the name in ServiceBox causes the system to fail to match it correctly. Try:

  • Editing the customer name in ServiceBox to remove any trailing spaces.

  • Running the sync again.

4. Change the Name Slightly

If the conflict persists, you’ll need to adjust the name to make it unique. For example:

  • Change “John Smith” to “John Smith – Service”

  • Or adjust the spelling slightly if appropriate

This issue is especially common when the same entity exists as both a customer and a supplier.
