Understanding Input and Output Fields in ServiceBox Report Forms

This article explains how to correctly identify and fill out the input and output fields when submitting a report form, using “Work Order By Status Date” as an example.

When filling out a form to generate a report in ServiceBox, it's important to know the difference between input fields and output fields. This helps ensure the report delivers the data you're actually looking for.

What Are Input Fields?

Input fields are the fields you see on the screen before generating the report. These act as filters and control which records are included in the final report. You must complete these fields before clicking the Generate button.

Example:

For the Work Order By Status Date report, the input fields might include:

  • Start Date

  • End Date

  • Customer

  • Job Site

  • Status

  • Assigned User

  • Category

These determine which data will appear in your report.

What Are Output Fields?

Output fields are the columns that appear in the final report after it's been generated. These are the data points you want to see for each record returned by the input filters.

Example:

For the Work Order By Status Date report, example output fields may include:

  • Work Order Number

  • Work Order Date

  • Status Change Date

  • Customer Name

  • Job Site Address

  • Assigned User

  • Status

Tips for Filling the Form

  • Use the labels from the report screen when listing input fields.

  • Use the column headers from the generated report as your output fields.
