Why the Invoice is Displaying Markup Percentage Inconsistently? - FAQ
Issue
Inconsistent display of markup percentage on invoices.
Cause
This issue typically occurs due to specific configuration settings related to how markup values are applied and whether users are allowed to modify them at the invoice level.
Solution
Understanding Quote Items
In ServiceBox, Quote Items act as a database where line items, default pricing, markup percentages, and tax levels are stored. When creating new quotes or pulling quote items into an invoice, the default markup is automatically applied unless settings allow it to be changed manually.
Prevent Users from Changing Default Markup
To lock default markup percentages and prevent user edits:
-
Log in to your ServiceBox account.
-
Click on Settings from the dropdown menu under your username.
-
Go to the Quote Item Settings tab.
-
Uncheck the box labeled “Allow Update of Unit Cost and Markup.”
This ensures the default markup remains fixed, even if a user attempts to edit it at the invoice level.
Setting or Updating Default Markup Percentages
To review or change the default markup:
-
Log in to your ServiceBox account.
-
Navigate to Settings > Quote Items.
You'll see a list of your saved items, each with a default markup (e.g., 25%).
To change:
-
Click the Edit button next to the line item you want to modify.
-
Enter your desired markup percentage (e.g., change from 25% to 0%).
-
Save your changes.
Bulk Update Markups via Import/Export
For large-scale updates:
-
Use the Export button to download all quote items.
-
Edit the markup percentages in bulk within the Excel file.
-
Use the Import function to upload your changes back into ServiceBox.
This allows for efficient updates to all markup settings at once.
